Overview

The project focused on modeling a private cottage at LOD 350, including all sanitary and lighting elements. A unique aspect of this project was that, alongside Revit and ReCap, our team also adapted Enscape for rendering.

Scope of work: Highly detailed Revit model of the building, drawing set, and Enscape material setup for client-side rendering.

Input: Full Point Cloud with exterior and interior parts.

Project deliverables:

  • Revit 3D model of the building: exterior part in LOD 350 and interior part in LOD 300.
  • Drawings set (floor plans, elevations, sections).

About the project

The private cottage, crafted from a blend of stone and wood, exudes a rustic charm while maintaining a contemporary design. The natural textures of the stone walls complement the warmth of the wooden accents, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere.

Modeled in Revit, the 3D representation captures the intricate details of the structure, from the stone masonry to the exposed wooden beams, showcasing a seamless integration of traditional materials with modern architectural precision. The design reflects a balance between nature and craftsmanship, offering a peaceful retreat in a serene environment.

Point cloud vs model

Project challenge

Revit’s flexibility allowed for precise control over dimensions and materials, enabling a highly detailed and accurate 3D representation of the building’s exterior in LOD350 and the interior in LOD300.

Also, our team modeled all sanitary and lighting per the client’s request. Modeling the lighting for the private cottage in Revit involved creating a realistic and functional design that complemented both the architectural style and the surrounding environment. Interior and exterior lighting fixtures were carefully selected and placed, ensuring that each lamp was properly positioned to enhance the cottage’s ambiance.

Layers materials

A special request from the client was to model all the walls, floors, and roof with layers, showing different material layers inside the elements.

Following the client’s instructions and requirements, these layers had to be properly connected and coordinated to simplify the engineers’ work with the model. Therefore, special attention was given to this stage to ensure the model was both accurate and convenient to use.

For example, the exterior walls consist of the following layers: Wood Shingle, Sturdi-Batten, Plywood, Wood Stud (structural layer), Gypsum Wall, and white paint. This way, we have a visual representation of what the various elements are made of.

The ORIGIN team completed this task efficiently, ensuring it did not impact deadlines, leveraging their extensive experience to handle a variety of challenges effectively.

Point cloud vs Model
Preparing the Model for Rendering in Enscape

At the final stage of the project, our team used the Enscape plugin to apply and adjust materials, preparing the model for the client’s further work and render creation.

We also placed landscape elements across the site to ensure the vegetation displayed correctly within the Enscape environment. To keep the rendering workflow stable and predictable, standard Enscape plant assets were used throughout the project.

After the landscaping setup, we proceeded with material development and application. The model included both standard and custom materials, with carefully selected textures and bump maps to accurately represent the building’s real-life appearance and surface details. Special attention was given to how the materials behaved under different lighting conditions to ensure visual consistency and realism.

Once the materials were verified and adjusted to match the existing building conditions, we prepared the final project package for the client, including the required files and supporting instructions for further work with the model and rendering workflow.
